The day began quietly, with the bride getting ready surrounded by her closest friends in one of the rooms of the mountain hotel in Belalp.
Inside, the atmosphere was warm and relaxed, while outside, the weather was doing something completely different. Rain and fog covered the mountains that morning, and we were hoping the forecast would keep its promise of sunshine for the first look.
While the bride was getting ready, the groom was preparing in another part of the hotel. One of my favorite details from that morning was this photography, with an old illustration of the hotel in the background, showing how the same place looked more than a century ago.
Outside, however, the weather wasn’t quite as expected for an August wedding.
Rai had been fallen throughout the morning, and the mountains were covered by clouds and fog. For a moment, it seemed that the day might stay that way.
But we were lucky with the timing. Just as it was time for the first look, the weather began to change. The fog lifted and the first rays of sunlight came through.
Away from the guests and the celebrations, they took a quiet moment to exchange their vows privately. We walked a little further from the venue, into the surrounding landscape, where sweeping mountain views created a beautiful setting for their private vows exchange.
With no audience and nowhere else to be, the moment felt incredibly intimate. The emotion of the vows, the dramatic mountain views and the peaceful atmosphere made this one of my favorite parts of photographing there mountain wedding.
From there, we returned to the venue for the ceremony, this time surrounded by their family and friends. The intimate atmosphere continued throughout the afternoon, with drinks and conversations on the terrace before everyone gathered for dinner. As the evening unfolded, the quiet moments of the morning gave way to laughter, music and dancing.
Looking back at this mountain wedding in Switzerland, what I love most is how naturally the day unfolded. From the preparations and an unexpected change in weather to the private vows, emotional ceremony and joyful celebration, there was never a need to force a moment.
My approach to wedding photography is centred around exactly this: observing, anticipating and giving couples the space to be themselves. I combine natural photography with gentle direction when needed, creating a collection of honest, timeless photographs that tell the story of the day as it truly felt.
It was a magnificent day in Belalp full of emotion, beautiful surroundings and all the little moments that made it uniquely theirs.
