There is always a moment of nervous excitement before I leave for a wedding, a proposal, or an elopement. These are events that have often been planned for months, sometimes even for more than a year.
During that entire time, we discuss the perfect location, the best time of day for lighting, the cable car schedules, all possible scenarios, and, of course, the inevitable question: what if it rains? Every detail is carefully considered so that, when the day finally arrives, the couple can simply be present and enjoy every second.
As I packed my camera bag and headed to Grindelwald to meet M&B, I felt that familiar mix of excitement and responsibility.
B. first contacted me at the beginning of the year. In that email, she told me about her dream of eloping in May in the Jungfrau region and wanted me to capture the moment with my camera. This international couple decided to travel to Switzerland with a small group of close friends to exchange vows surrounded by some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery the Swiss Alps have to offer, at Grindelwald First.
Their ceremony began in a beautifully unique way.
The couple didn’t arrive together. M waited hidden behind a small wooden cabin while Blanka slowly made her way down the mountainside toward the ceremony location we had chosen together: a lush green meadow sprinkled with delicate white wildflowers that seemed to have appeared just for them.
It was one of those moments that inspires you without asking anything in return.
In a single photograph, I was able to capture three different stories unfolding at once: B descending the mountain, the friend who would officiate the ceremony waiting quietly for both of them, and M hidden behind the cabin, anticipating the perfect moment to step forward and complete their first look.
These are the images that tell an entire story in a single frame.
The ceremony was simple, heartfelt, and deeply moving.
One of my favorite parts of documenting an elopement is noticing the little details that often go unnoticed. Like the mobile phone that accompanied the ceremony: a small reminder that even the most extraordinary moments are made of ordinary things.
Or the moment when one of B friends became an improvised writing desk while they signed the marriage documents. When there isn’t a table nearby, we somehow manage to turn ourselves into the perfect support. These spontaneous, unplanned moments bring authenticity and personality to every story.
The location could not have been more beautiful.
From this meadow, the panoramic views over the surrounding mountains perfectly capture everything that makes Grindelwald so unforgettable.
On this occasion, we had the privilege of accessing a private property through prior arrangement. That meant the ceremony remained completely uninterrupted—no tourists walking through the background, no people stopping to watch, no waiting for the perfect moment to take a photograph.
It was just the couple, their closest friends, and the mountains.
Sometimes, that’s all you need.
An elopement is perfect for couples who want their wedding day to feel deeply personal and meaningful.
Some places are destinations we may only visit once in our lifetime. Sharing one of life’s most important moments there creates memories that stay with us in a different way. You don’t just remember the ceremony—you remember the journey, the landscape, the silence, the adventure, and every emotion that brought you there.
Every couple has their own vision of what getting married should look like.
Traditional weddings remain a beautiful way to celebrate surrounded by family and friends. But an elopement offers something different: the freedom to create an entire day that revolves around the two of you, free from schedules, expectations, and traditions that don’t truly reflect who you are.
Every decision begins with one simple question:
What would make the two of you happiest?
The ceremony is no longer shaped by protocol but by intention. You choose the place, the time of day, the light, the journey, the pace, and every small detail with only one goal in mind: creating an experience that feels completely yours.
Because starting a family doesn’t begin with signing a document or exchanging rings.
It begins the moment two people choose to celebrate their love in the way that feels most authentic to them.
